American Gods
This book makes so much more sense after reading up on Norse mythology and getting a better sense of what the Old Man is like. It also helps to pass the time while being sick.
Neil Gaiman is a twisted genius. I love this man's writing. I'm not sure if you enjoy YA, but if you do, check out The Graveyard Book; it does something wonderful with mythology as we (think we) know it ;-)
I have Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman on my to-be-reread pile. Can't wait!

In fiction circles, Gaiman is a god. AG was so spot-on amazing that it's become one of my "desert island keepers."
